Ardell Scartaccini, New Mexico Glass Garden

Joni Palmer is a cultural planner who presented a fascinating paper at the AAG2013 Conference in Los Angeles about the Glass Garden in New Mexico. Ardell Scartacinni began surrounding her small shop in rural New Mexico with glass bottles in 1964. Collecting glass bottles and found objects Ardell started to find new and experimental ways of arranging and displaying the bottles to capture and refract the sunlight. The display became known as the Glass Garden.

Ardell left the property in 1986, which remained vacant until Fabrizio and Linda Beorchia bought the land in 1998. When they found out about the garden, they begun to restore Ardell’s vision.
